Enlightening Stories is an anthology of stories chosen from Indian and other religious traditions. Geographically, they range from the jungles of India to the deserts of the Middle East and the hills of Italy; historically, from the Vedic period to the 20th century; culturally, from the Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, and Christian traditions. Wide-ranging and eclectic, these inspiring stories reflect the world’s rich spiritual heritage and illustrate the universality of religious truth.

Forty-one of the seventy-four stories have been taken from the Bengali book, Galpa Malika, (A Garland of Stories) originally compiled by Swamu Chetanananda of the Vedanta Society of St. Louis. The balance have been taken from other sources including three retold from the Upanishads. The entire collection has been translated and edited by Swami Vimohananda.
