According to Swami Ajarananda, co-producer of Holy Footprints, “The digitally videographed documentary has been produced in response to numerous requests from devotees and admirers, who are keen to have a fresh look at Sri Ramakrishna’s birth place and the many places where he spent his childhood days way back in the middle of the 19th century.” Kamarpupur (Hooghly district) already attracts thousands of pilgrims throughout the year. It has aroused worldwide interest from overseas visitors, who feel the need of an authentic visual guidance support.
Then again there are millions of men and women who are unable to make a trip to the Hooghly district, but are keen to have a reliable visual experience. The video CD ‘Holy Footprints’ is not a feature film – it is a visual documentary of places, people, playgrounds, palaces, prayer halls and temples connected with the early life of Sri Ramakrishna. The details have been painstakingly researched by a team of monastic members of the Ramakrishna Order in order to make a reliable documentary. Says Swami Ramananda, “Some gaps have been filled with dramatic recreations of the past, particularly a few childhood episodes of the saint.”
