This book presents the original sutras and the commentary of Vyasa (the most important commentary). To this the foremost exponent of Yoga Philosophy of our time brings his insightful commentary. The translation into English is excellent.

The only Yoga book I've read which holds a candle to this is the Advaita Ashram version of Swami Vivekananda's Raja Yoga. However, what Swami Vivekananda explains in a paragraph, Harharananda Aranya, explains in a few pages. This was necessary for me and it gave me a better appreciation of the meaning of Swami Vivekananda's work.

I think this is the best book for any serious student of Yoga or Samkhya.
