The Vedic recitations are really nice. The Mantrapushpam book has all the major Upanishads but the CDs contain the recitation of the Yajurvedic Upanishads (Katha, Taitt, Isha, Brihad) only and I wish that the aged and learned Swamiji had also recorded the Upanishads of the other Vedas too even though their Vedic accents are lost (although the recent editions have added the accents to Kena, Aitareya and Mundaka Upanishads following the Taitt Samhita and RV notations). Secondly, the classical Sanskrit stotras sometimes tend to be inaudible and are masked by the background Harmonium which tends to be too loud (and could have been replaced with something like the Veena). Hopefully, this can be rectified in the next edition. The book itself is the most useful compilation of its kind that I have seen and therefore the CDs are automatically the best in their category but the above deficiencies should be rectified. For the stotras, I find the chanting by Swami Brahmananda (Chinmayapublications) very inspiring too. Repeated Pranams to Swami Devananda for chanting such a large volume of sacred scriptures for recording on these CDs. |
