The Indian ideal of womanhood is built on the great lives of women in India's spiritual past, including the epics and puranas, especially the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
The book has two sections. The first one deals with a general survey of the ideals and position of the women of India. Included is a chapter on the evoluition of mother worship in India.
Tthe second part looks at the lives of the women that Indian society looks at in awe.
Note that since the book was printed in 1953, some of the concepts may appear dated, but the overview is still a pioneering look at the great women of India's past.
Beautifully illustrated with black & white photographs and color paintings. A wonderful addition to any library.
