Srimad Bhagavata (tr. Swami Tapasyananda)
The
Srimad Bhagavata belongs to the class of Hindu religious literature known as the
Puranas. The word
Purana literally means “narratives of ancient times”. As one of the most important
Puranas, the
Srimad Bhagavata and is regarded as an encyclopedia of spiritual philosophy. Consisting of 18,000 verses, it is certainly one of the great achievements of any religious literature.
Attributed to the sage Vyasa, the
Bhagavata (also called the
Bhagavatam) illustrates religious truths with stories of ancient India's saints, seers, and kings. The book also deals in part with the life of Krishna, which makes the book especially sacred to the Vaishnavas. These four volumes include the original Devanagari Sanskrit along with English translation. The verses are numbered for easy reference. A thorough introduction explains the methodology and outlook of
Pauranika literature in respect to space, time, nature and man. Prologues are also included with each Skanda to further the reader's understanding of the text. We offer the four volumes separately or as a set.
For those daunted by the sheer scope of the undertaking, the publishers have printed the introduction to the set in a separate booklet. Please click

Excellent Translation
06/24/2019
By Blake Cothron
I had been looking for an English translation of the Srimad Bhagavata that was complete and not abridged. Most versions are very abridged and have most of the text removed. This one is complete. It also lacks lengthy commentary which is nice because it keeps the book down to 3 reasonable volumes. The translation is excellent and the sublime devotional mood of the text is there without interjecting any dogmatic or institutional biases. Overall this is the best translation I have come across, and at a good price. Delivery was fast.
