Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita

Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamritta

This book is a word-by-word translation of the original Bengali Edition of the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.

It contains the dialogues of the Bengali saint Ramakrishna written with almost stenographic accuracy. This edition is a different translation than the Swami Nikhilananda Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna which was published in the forties and showed the restraint of that era. Still, it isn't that much different. One important change is that this edition translates kamani kanchana as "lust and greed," or "lust and gold," instead of "woman and gold," as used in the Nikhilananda translation. Added to the translation is an index of words, another index of songs,  and an index of Sri M.'s visits to Sri Ramakrishna by date.

Please note that Volume 2 is only available in paperback! At this point the other volumes are hardback. New printings will likely be paperback.

The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna and Concordance to the Gospel 09/27/2019
By Amrut Champaneri
For more than 30 years I have been touched and reading the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. This was the version Swami Nikhilananda transalated from the original Kathamrita written in Bengali. Recently I happened to see the Hollywood Vedanta Center catalogue and saw Swami Saradananda version of the Kathamrita. Out of curiosity of any differences I bought the later along with the Concordance to the Gospel. To me the style and translation languages in both get dissolved because I hear only Sri Ramakrishna speaking. Please see January 2018 issue of the Prabuddha Bharat where various authors spoke about the Gospel. Particularly, read the articles by Atmagyananand (Vedanta Society, MD). He (an American) learned Sanskrit and Bengali to read the Gospel in Bengali who also did not miss anything in translation. Somehow, the Divine spell of Sri Ramakrishna! Anyhow, these are invaluable great books to keep and read in your home.
