Many years ago, the Norton Simon Museum acquired a magnificent statue of a Nataraj Shiva, that had been in the Sivapuram Temple in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district. Unfortunately for the museum, the statue had been stolen and was to return to India in ten years per agreement with the Indian government.
A group of us went to the museum in Pasadena, California to see the center of all the attention. What we saw was the most amazing image I had ever seen. The peaceful and indrawn look on Shiva's face made us speechless. The statue was about 6 feet high (based on my memory). It should have been in a special room at the museum, it was so special and spectacular.
The museum had a collection of posters that we acquired after the statue returned to India.
Note that the picture doesn't fully represent the high quality of the lithographed poster. The actual poster shows the full statue down to the base with the following words underneath:
"Norton Simon Museum of Art at Pasadena."
We are now down to our last few copies, A few are fine, the others are in less than perfect condition.
