From early childhood, Meera considered herself married to God, but political reasons forced her into an earthly marriage with a prince.
In the film, she refuses to have intimate dealings with the prince, so the royal court decides that Meera should die rather than have “two” husbands. Meera vanishes in the Lord’s temple.
Her beautiful songs to Lord Krishna are sung throughout India to this day. Meera is played by India’s foremost actress Hema Malini.
Songs sung by Dinkar Kaikini, Vani Jayram, with sitar by Ravi Shankar.
