Misquoting Jesus

by Dr. Bart D. Ehrman

This is the story behind who changed the Bible and Why. We offer this book to our customers and friends who constantly hear in the media all the talk about the absolute truth of the Bible and need some historical background.

The author started off as a born-again Christian. He was warned not to go into the history too much, but he did, and as he studied the subject, his commitment to the evangelical doctrine became less and less. He saw that the Bible is a very human book written by humans.

The author chairs the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Deserves commendation just for the thouroughness, but does not make for an exciting read. The title is the best part, but I'm still glad I got the book.

This book was a fascinating read where I learned a history of the Bible that the right-wing Christians would rather not know. It's a combination of the conquerors writing their own histry, monks trying to push the divinity of Jesus, and other human issues.

Also included is the story of how the author while attending one of the born-again colleges gradually changed his opinion about the Bible. One of his advisers told him that he shouldn't pursue such studies since he would lose his faith.
